Your cake design process
begins with a design consultation at our bakery in Plymouth, Minnesota. We are
available by appointment only to ensure that your design time goes
uninterrupted. This allows us to focus on creating the perfect cake for your
wedding. Bring along your planning file for us to rifle through. We'll draw
inspiration from the attire, the floral, the ceremony and reception sites, and
other details from your day. We've found cake designs in the most unlikely of
places, so don't be afraid to bring in the whole file!

Our turn! We'll let you
look through albums of Gateaux's recent cake designs for ideas on cake basics
and to get a feel for the shape, layout, and other design features you like. We
also have pages and pages of wedding cake ideas from magazines and the internet
to browse for more inspriration. From there, we combine things from your
wedding with things from cakes that you've seen and liked to create an original design for your wedding cake. Your wedding is unique, your wedding cake should be one of a kind!

size for your wedding cake based on the number of guests, and the look of the
cakes that you like.

These guidelines don't include the top tier, which is
traditionally saved for the bride and groom to share on their first
anniversary.
 We'll
also explain "torting", the reason why a three tier wedding cake from Gateaux,
is taller than other bakeries' four tier wedding cakes. It's easy, we bake
three layers of cake for each tier of wedding cake. We sandwich them together
with two layers of filling, and they yield 6 inch high tiers! We started making
our wedding cakes this way when we saw how short a typical three-tier wedding cake looked. Most bakeries' three-tier wedding cakes are 12" tall, there's just no comparison to one of our 18" tall beauties!
The best part about a torted wedding cake? Well, yeah, they are
tall and sleek and beautiful, but most importantly... the slices are 6 inches
tall too! Have you ever seen a slice of wedding cake that big? You will
now!
